Australian Tennis Open - 17 to 30 January 2011

A record crowd of 653, 860 attended the Australian Open in 2010. There is set to be a huge crowd in 2011. The Melbourne Open is one of the first of four Grand Slam tennis tournaments held each year in the middle of Australia's summer. The two main courts used in the tournament are Rod Laver Arena and Hisense Arena feature retractable roofs, which are shut during rain or extreme heat. The Australian Open and Wimbledon are the only Grand Slam tournaments with indoor play.

Santos Tour Down Under - 16 to 23 January 2011

International cycling action takes place in South Australia every January with the Tour Down Under. The first stop on the world cycling calendar, the Tour Down Under is the biggest cycling race in the southern hemisphere and the only UCI ProTour race outside Europe. This exciting event attracts the cream of Australian and European professional cyclists to compete in a series of grueling road races through Adelaide and various country regions of South Australia. Before one of the race stages, recreational cyclists can join in the action and cycle the same route as the professionals. Bula Festival in Nadi - July (Annual)

Follow the marching-band parades and see the sparkly Miss Bula contestants in traditional Fijian costumes at the annual Bula Festival in Nadi, on Viti Levu. There is a Pacific dancing contest, a Bollywood night and other fun events.

Sugar Festival in Lautoka - August - September (Annual)

Fiji's sugar hub of Lautoka gives thanks for the local industry at the annual Sugar Festival. Brass bands and vehicles adorned with sugar cane parade through the streets, children whizz round on funfair rides and Miss Sugar sports her crown.

The Rising of the Balolo - October & November (various dates)

Sail out in a canoe with nets and torches to catch the 'Caviar of the Pacific' - millions of writhing sea-worms that rise to the surface to spawn. Locals scoop and eat, saving the majority to take home to cook patties. Two nights annually, in the last quarter of the moon in October and November, the Fijian reefs of the South Pacific come alive, but as dawn breaks there's no sign of the mysterious Balolo. Transport is all private arrangement in small boats or speedboats, easily organized via resorts in the area.

Diwali - October (Annual)

Fiji's population is a rich mix of Melanesians, East Indians, Polynesians, Micronesians, Chinese and Europeans, each culturally distinct. The islands' Hindus celebrate Diwali, the Festival of Lights, with ornate light and candle decorations, creating a beautiful spectacle come nightfall.

Surfing in Fiji - (various dates)

Fiji has some of the finest and most consistent breaks on offer. Spots such as 'Cloud Break' and 'Swimming Pools' near Tavarua are legendary. There are lesser known and more affordable surf camps and accommodation on the main islands of Viti Levu, Taveuni and Kadavu. On Kadavu, there is a fantastic right break known as 'Typhoon Alley,' where you can ride four to 12 foot waves from November to June. You might also discover the secret location of the fabled 'Purple Haze' in Taveuni. The small islands off the coast of Viti Levu, particularly Tavarua and Namotu, are the best for hardcore surfers. The best times of the year to surf in Fiji are from June to August or September to March.

Diving in Fiji

According to the great underwater expert, Jacques Cousteau, "the sheer diversity of life on Fijian reefs is overwhelming." Diving in Fiji's pristine South Pacific waters reveals a hidden world of barrier reefs of riotous color and entrancing crevices and caves. Fiji encompasses more than 333 islands. The Great Sea Reef off the north coast of Vanua Levu is one of the world's longest and the Astrolabe Reef north of Kadavu is astoundingly colorful.

Garden of the Sleeping Giant

At the foothills of Nausori Highlands, about 10 minutes' drive toward the north of Nadi, rests the Garden of the Sleeping Giant, one of the most popular tourist attractions in Fiji Islands. Travelers to Fiji will experience a world of beauty at this tropical garden resort which houses over 2000 species of orchids covering 20 hectares.

Tahiti "Tere Fa'ati"

A traditional public transportation outing by "le truck" around the island of Tahiti with stops for swimming, relaxing and discovering various tourist attractions along the way, as well as musical atmosphere and dance shows. Upon arrival on the peninsula a Tahitian meal is offered to the happy travelers. Also, the King and Queen of the Tere Fa'ati will be selected from among the group.

Chinese New Year - February 2011

The Chinese community of Tahiti celebrates the New Year on the date given by the Chinese horoscope for that particular year. This year is the Year of the Tiger. The program of festivities begin with the official opening ceremony at the Kanti temple of Mamao and is followed by several events including the parade of the lion through all the neighboring shops and finishes with a ball at the Chinese Philanthropic hall. A cultural day is also organized to discover the magic of Chinese folk culture: song, dance, martial arts and culinary arts.

Tahiti Pearl Regatta - to be announced

International regatta in the Leeward Islands - Bora Bora, Tahaa and Raiatea. This is a 3-stage, 3-day race. At the finish of each stage, the winners received their trophy for the various categories and at the end of each day all participants enjoy a dinner with traditional Tahitian entertainment.

Heiva I Tahiti - July

The largest annual cultural festival in Tahiti taking place at beautiful To'ata Square in Papeete. In addition to the dance and singing competitions, there are sporting events, cultural demonstrations, cuisine and crafts.
